Barren Island is the only active volcano in India. As it’s situated on the seismically active tectonic plates of the Andaman Sea, the volcano is active here. The volcano last erupted in the years 1994-’95, and you can still see the smoke from the volcano and bursts of light in the sky. So, nobody is permitted to visit this island directly. Instead, you can rent a cruise to get a view of the island from the coastlines. But, you need visiting permission from the forest department to travel to the surroundings of Barren Island.
